Issue Campaigns

Whether you are advocating for a ballot initiative measure or against it, SPP has a track record of winning Issue Campaigns, even when stacked against seemingly impossible odds.

Ohio First Issues 2, 3, 4 and 5

In 2005, we conducted the successful Ohio First initiative. This extensive paid and earned media campaign which utilized television, radio and many other mediums defeated four election-related constitutional amendments. Over the course of several months, we executed a strong grassroots field effort, media management and public relations campaign, pulling Ohio voters to our side of the issues. Despite polls in the final week of the campaign that showed several of the measures passing, all four were defeated by margins of 20-30 points.

Ohio Issue 6

In 2008, we conducted the successful No on 6 campaign. Polls once again showed a measure passing with only weeks to go, but SPP executed a broad campaign of grassroots opposition and extensive paid and earned media. Due to our efforts, the measure was defeated by a double-digit margin on Election Day.

Ohio Issue 3

In 2009, Strategic Public Partners designed, managed and executed the largest ballot/initiative campaign in Ohio history. The Ohio Jobs & Growth Plan was a measure to authorize casino gaming in Ohio. Four similar measures, including Issue 6 in 2008, had been defeated over the past two decades, all by double digit margins.

SPP executed a full campaign plan that included television and radio advertising, in addition to award-winning mail, phone and internet campaigns. The end result was the measure passing by a 6-point margin, a historic success for an issue rejected by voters many times before.
